About Money For Rope
Money For Rope are a five piece surf/soul/rock/garage band from Melbourne, Australia. They’ve been playing all over this large, arid land for around six years now, releasing many a cd and vinyl along the way. There’s also been 6 international tours in that time as well as a few international releases.
One of the great pleasures in life is witnessing a Money For Rope live performance as it’s all encompassing, vibrant, energetic, sexy, all of these things all at once, it’s simply an amazing experience. You’ll find it very hard to stand still with guitar licks flying, bass lines rumbling, keyboards groovin’ and double drummers blowing your tiny mind.
A couple of months long Wednesday night residency at Melbourne’s iconic Cherry Bar kicked things off where word got out after a couple of weeks and by the end the band was playing to packed houses. From there there was the relentless touring of the homeland in all it’s vastness and with their first four 7” singles being compiled to make an album for a Spanish release, eyes went onto being abroad.
A tour of Spain was arranged for October 2013 with some industry shows thrown in for good measure which resulted in a large number of European festival promoters seeing the band and falling head over heels in love with them. As a result the band got invited to return to Europe in 2014 to play a dozen festivals across the summer.
Before leaving for Spain in 2013 Money For Rope appeared at Brisbane music conference Bigsound and impressed the right people there to result in being invited to appear in Austin Texas at the annual South By South West (SxSW) music conference which the band duly attended in March 2014, as well as appearing in cities such as Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, LA, Houston, Nashville, Memphis and Clarksdale Mississippi.
A month back home and then it was off to Europe again late April 2014 where the band stayed, played and toured for four solid months, returning home late August to begin recording their second album. Whilst in the UK & Europe for the northern summer they saw their debut self titled album come out in England, Germany, Switzerland and Austria whilst they did shows with the likes of Gary Clark Jr and appeared at
music industry conference events Liverpool Sound City and The Great Escape in the UK and at festivals such as Camden Rocks (UK), Glastonbury (UK), Rock For People (Czech Republic), Pohoda (Slovakia), Low (Spain), Haldern Pop (Germany), Sziget (Hungary).
The Great Escape was a major event for Money For Rope, resulting in the securing of the services of French, Swiss & German promoters as well being seen by an Indian promoter at the Aussie BBQ who invited the band to appear at the NH7 Weekender Festival in November 2014 in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore, which the band agreed to and did indeed do. Straight after the Indian tour the band returned to Europe where they did a 13 date tour as special guests to Courtney Barnett, culminating in an appearance at French festival Transmusicales.
2015 saw more work on album number two, a return to Europe for half a dozen festival dates in Germany, an appearance at Open Air St Gallen in Switzerland, a show with fellow Aussies Sheppard in Prague and a tour of their own throughout the UK. Following this the band members each took a well earned few months off before coming home to complete the second album, titled “Picture Us”, that they will take with them back to Europe this April in an attempt to get a worldwide deal with a record label of repute. They begin with a tour of Spain as guests to The Meanies before heading into a studio in the Spanish region of Galicia, heading out for the occasional festival appearance or tour.
