Adelaide Weekend: Rick’s Summary
Friday June 24, 2011
On the day we left for Adelaide I got up at 6:00AM, somehow we didn’t leave till after 10. Why does this always happen? Anyway we set off on a road trip in two cars, I drove all the way because the blokes in my car started sneakily drinking beers in the back. By the time we reached Adelaide we had all started going mental from the eight hour car trip. Some welcome news was half price schnitzels at the pub we were playing at, apparently they eat more schnitzels than parma’s in Adelaide. We also heard about pie floaters, a pie floater is an upside-down pie in a bowl covered in pea soup and topped with tomato sauce. We made it our mission to taste one. The first nights show was a bit rough, we drank a bit too much and not many people came, we ended up having a good party afterwards though. We woke up the next day and went looking for food and coffee, we failed to find good coffee all weekend but had a couple of great Chinese meals. In the arvo soundguy Garth and I went to watch the Kangas beat Essendon, the only place with Foxtel was a dodgy TAB but the victory made our day. On the Saturday night we played with Tumbleweed at a place called Fowlers Live, it was great, we then went back to our accommodation (The Grace Emily Hotel, best pub in Australia) we drank lots and had fun. Apparently Cini and Garth ended up at some club and danced to hip-hop all night. On the Sunday we soothed our aching heads with a great big Yum Cha brunch, it lifted all our spirits enormously. Jules, Robbie and I went off to do a radio interview, we ended up talking about pie floaters, fishing and water quality standards, I think it worked though. That night we drank black & tans and played at the Grace Emily with a great band called TEA. We had a ball again. In the morning Rob, Valda and Cini got up at 6 to get to the airport, Rob had accidently booked his flight for the following day (How? What a dick!) anyway he had a nightmarish day poor guy. Before we left I finally got my pie floater, I’m glad I’ve now experienced one but am not super keen for another. The drive home was quiet but we had a big bucket of KFC.
